Susan insisted on posting this. I am pretty lucky to celebrate my birthday in Kenya almost every year. The birthday dessert was actually pretty darn good. It was a fried date pastry with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. The pastry tasted like a deep fried fig Newton. Sounds like a new idea for the Indiana state fair.
