Road repairs

This road is being repaired. In the US they would typically maintain traffic while performing repairs. Here they are simply blocking the road. The workers use pick axes to widen and clear out pot holes and weak sections of pavement. They then put down a base layer of rock. The rock has been broken down to smaller size pieces by hand using large hammers. I think they will use oil and asphalt on the rock but I haven't seen them progress that far yet.

This work is mostly manual. Labor is very cheap here with insanely high unemployment. There is no financial incentive to invest in machinery to automate or lessen the labor involved.
