Masai Mara Day Two

Day 2 began with an early morning game drive that began right at daybreak in our highly-modified safari version of a Toyota Land Cruiser.

Highlights included a pride of four male lions (brothers) and more elephants.

We then visited a Masai village nearby. The Masai are a tribe of cattle herders. They live in huts made of sticks and cow dung. Check out wikipedia (search: Masai People) or another source to learn more about the Masai.

The highlight of our afternoon drive was finding a group of giraffes who had come down from feeding on trees on a hillside to get a drink of water in a stream below the treeline. We never would have seen them in the trees.

We also saw a leopard up in a tree. It was presumably either resting in safety or waiting for unsuspecting prey to come near.

It was also Kyle's birthday, so at dinner, Susan surprised Kyle by having the dinner staff bring him a cake while singing a traditional African greeting song, followed by "Happy Birthday".
